Clifford Whitworth Library is open 24 hours, 7 days a week during semesters 1 and 2.

24/7 library at Clifford Whitworth

Services outside normal staff hours

Outside normal staff hours the library will be self service.

During this period you will have:

  • A secure place to study
  • Self-Service issue and return
  • Self-Service collection of reservations

As well as access to:

  • the book stock, journals and government publications
  • the PC suites, including printers and scanners
  • electronic resources
  • the Short Loan collection
  • photocopiers

Refreshments are available from the vending machines in the Learning Cafe.

We will be monitoring usage and speaking to you about your experience of using the service. This will feed into future decisions about opening hours.

Please note that access to the building will only be allowed on production of your University of Salford ID card.


Car parking arrangements between 4pm & 7am

The Cockcroft/Peel car park will be available during 24/7 opening, between 4pm and 7am, to provide safer parking for overnight Clifford Whitworth library users.

You will need to be registered with a full permit and be in possession of a proximity card to activate the Barriers. All current car parking cards will be automatically updated for the new times. There will be no extra charge for the extended hours.

If you do not currently hold a permit you can purchase one at the Car Parking office which is based in Myers Building, opening hours 8am-4pm, Monday to Friday, telephone 295 4572. A deposit of £5 is required for a proximity card.

The car park will be available for access via the Cockcroft Road barrier after 4pm and before 7am.

All vehicles must be removed by 7am or owners may face a £60 Parkforce fine.
